It’s been a while since I visited this little space of mine. There is just so much I want to talk about and share with you but the thought of it all is just so overwhelming. The truth is, I’ve been trying to figure out what exactly I want this blog to be about. Parenting, food and dessert, health and fitness; I’m just really not sure. What I am sure of though, is that I really miss writing and I’m going to make every effort to jump back on this thing as often as I can. So I am going to just write about whatever I want to at that moment and if you’re interested in reading, then great! If not, no feelings hurt.
So, where did we leave off? Right, my new job. It’s REALLY great. I work Monday through Thursday every week and have off on Friday’s. This has been a real game changer for me and the kids and Friday’s have obviously become my favorite day of the week. I cherish this alone time with them in so many ways. We eat, we cuddle, we play and I get a (roughly) 2 hour break mid-day when they are napping to catch up on some cleaning and laundry. When the weather was warmer we would go for a walk with our Radio Flyer wagon and they quickly become very attached to that thing. Seriously, the garage can’t even be open when they’re around, Total Tantrums X2!
Speaking of two, Thomas and Skyler are going to be TWO years old in a little less than two months and my mind is seriously blown. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? Where did this year go?? I think the second year went by way quicker than the first year did. I do really love this age though. I love being able to communicate with them on some level. I love their excitement now for certain things, like when it’s bath time and they run to the stairs jumping up and down. Or when they run into the kitchen after I come home with groceries and they start scrambling through the bags pulling things out and putting boxes of pasta in the refrigerator. It’s amazing to see children experiencing things in life for the first time. It’s amazing to see them really watching my words and trying to repeat them. Their language is evolving every day and I just love their cute little toddler voices, ugh melts my big ol’ momma heart.
We are still following a daily routine which I am totally living by. Because, Routine = Structure = Happy Kids = Happy Me. They eat their meals, nap and go to bed at the same times every day. I started this when they were really young and it’s just been something that I found was the easiest way to handle twins. We are going through some challenges with them right now; the most challenging being eating. They are in a stage where they just refuse to try something new. They will not even taste anything. Breakfast isn’t usually that much of a struggle but lunch and dinner are REALLY tough. I feel like I am repeatedly feeding them the same four things over and over again. Lately they haven’t even been eating the few things I thought I can always count on. I know this is just a stage, but boy oh boy it’s a frustrating one. I also know that when they are truly hungry, they eat and they eat well. They are still getting 16oz of milk a day so they are getting fat and protein from that and their snacks are always on the healthy side (they LOVE fruit) so I am trying to just chill myself out about their eating behaviors because there is really nothing I can do about it.
Bedtime is still 7:00pm majority of the nights. The only time we stray from this is if we are out on the weekend for dinner or a party, in which case they usually last until 9:00pm before the wild and cranky beasts start to come out. They are still waking up SUPER early (6-6:30am) which is typically no issue for me since I am an early riser as well.
On the topic of early bedtimes, I am truly so thankful they go to sleep without a fight so early. It has given me some “ME” time. I have a solid 2-2.5 hours before I crawl into bed to eat a quiet, uninterrupted meal, sneak in a 30 minute workout, prepare my meals for the next day if it’s a work night, tidy up the house, take a hot shower or just simply relax. I’ve been trying to make self-care a priority lately which I am going to be sharing in my next post. Until then, here’s a photo dump of my little clan.
